Fiji Festivities

fiji.jpgExchange your vows in the exotic South Pacific at the heavenly Fiji resort, The Wakaya Club & Spa, where Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates spent his honeymoon and where staff outnumber guests 12-1.You can opt for a romantic church wedding in a small white church with a steeple and stained glass windows, or alternatively go for an exotic ceremony where the bride is transported from her beach front bure (thatched hut with a private garden) on a sedan chair carried by four Fijian ‘warriors’ to join her groom, who awaits under a floral archway on the beach. The marriage is recognised internationally and the all-inclusive rate (from £4,600) covers the marriage license, the wedding site, transportation, floral decoration and bouquet, the ceremony, a Fijian choir, two Fijian flower girls, champagne reception, gourmet dinner, wedding cake and the Wakaya Island Band. Wakaya Club and Spa is also ideal for honeymoons, but paradise will cost you between £1,200 and £4,300 a night for a minimum of five nights.

Big Apple

bigapple.jpgSex in the City put New York on the map for romance. So follow in SJP’s fabulous footsteps and get hitched in the Big Apple. The recession has bitten hard in New York, so there are bargains to be found in the city that never sleeps – with world-famous hotels, such as the Waldorf Astoria dropping room rates from £188 to just £123. It’s a great time to take advantage of the low prices for your wedding plans. Central Park’s 843 acres offers romantic and idyllic locations for wedding ceremonies and photography, of which the most popular is the Conservatory Garden, located at Fifth Avenue and 105th Street. The six-acre garden is made up of three smaller gardens, each with its own particular charm. Extensive displays of flowers, shrubs and trees are in bloom from early spring through to late October. Ceremonies require permits from the Central Park Conservancy, which cost $400 – approximately £250. There is an additional fee of $100 for photography, and wedding parties are limited to 100 people. Flights are equally competitive, starting from as little as £220 per person.

Magical Vienna

magicalvienna.jpgBook budget flights to Vienna (prices start at £26, one-way with easyJet) for a magical wedding. Situated in Burggarten Park, the garden of the former Imperial Palace, The Butterfly House is one of Vienna’s finest Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) buildings. The wedding ceremony takes place in the Glass House, amid a tropical atmosphere of animals, plants and waterfalls. An hour before the ceremony the humidity is reduced to make the climate more agreeable. If the weather is fine tables can be set up in front of the Butterfly House and wedding guests served with sparkling wine and canapés. Wedding ceremonies can be held on weekdays from 5pm and on Saturdays from 9am, with a maximum of 50 standing guests. The cost of a wedding starts at £1,700 and includes the wedding ceremony, venue hire, wedding planning service and even flowers for the bridal table. A further fee can be paid for extras including a longer time at the venue, catering, your wedding cake and a horse and carriage.

My big, fat Greek Wedding

greekwedding.jpgBe inspired by Mamma Mia with a beautiful, sun-drenched wedding in Greece. You’ll be pleasantly surprised to know that a big, fat Greek wedding does not necessarily require a big, fat chequebook! Ionian Island Holidays offers a wedding package fee of £500, with complimentary wedding cake included. You’ll need to pay extra for the translation of legal certificates and documentation, but you will be surprised by the low cost of the accommodation and hospitality once you’re there. The spring and early summer months of May and June are considered the best time of year to exchange vows when the weather is lovely and warm, but not too hot. You will also have the added benefit of spring flowers as a beautiful backdrop for your photographs. Your wedding location is entirely up to you – hold your ceremony on the beach, in a garden, at a taverna or the local Town Hall. The local mayor performs ceremonies.
